We might be awesome in a lot of things, but we, millennials, consistently suck at taking care of our money.
And if you’ve been working long enough, you’d learn that earning a few bucks is just as hard as your parents claimed it to be.

So how do you actually manage to save up when you’re just starting out on a very meager, and crappy salary?
By not buying these unnecessary shits of course!
High-end Brands
There’s so much more to life than filling your closet with expensive items.
You can be stylish without having to waste your money on those Yeezys, BAPE, Gucci or whatever exorbitantly priced items you’re eyeing.
It’s high-time you check out what local brands have to offer or cop great finds at ukay-ukay shops.

Hipster Food

Trust us, there’s no wisdom in buying pricey hipster food for the sake of your Instagram feed. Go spend your money on reasonably priced food that you’d truly enjoy.
Expensive Sunnies and Other Accessories

You’ll look just as fab if you wear a moderately priced but durable pair. Besides, if you break or lose it, it won’t be as painful as breaking or losing a pair of legit Ray Ban’s.
GRAB Rides
Commuting in Manila is hard, but Grab rides are not cheap! Don’t make it a daily habit. If you’re not really in a hurry to get to your destination, take the train or ride a bus, jeep or tricycle. Put those coins to good use.
Gym Memberships and Fad Fitness Classes
If you can’t commit to the gym life for the long haul, cancel that membership. Better do your work out in a bakal gym, the ones that allow you to pay per visit.
Also, stop attending those fad fitness classes as the moment they go out of trend, you’d wish you could have your money back. Find an exercise you’d stick with.
Online Shopping
Time to delete those apps on your phone as they’re a constant temptation to throw your money away on stuff you don’t really need. It’s so hard to resist promos, right?

Coffee, Milk Tea, and Smoothies
A daily trip to Starbucks will cost you as much as P5,000 per month. You can spend that on more important items like insurance (yes, better start while you’re young).
Why don’t you stick to the brewed coffee in your office pantry? If you don’t like brewed coffee, stuff your office drawer with those premixed coffee packets.
Gadgets

You don’t need the latest flagship phones of Apple and Samsung. Spending P50,000 on a phone isn’t wise as there’s a number of new brands that offer much cheaper phones that work as well those of the big brands.
Practicality should always trump brand loyalty.

In-Game Purchases
Whether it’s Kim Kardashian: Hollywood (do people still play those?), SUPERSTAR SM/BTS/JYP, Rules of Survival, DON’T. DO. IT. You really don’t need that extra power up/life/gems/special items. What you need is to drop that phone, back away, and re-evaluate your life choices.
Cigarettes, VAPE and/or Alcohol

If you smoke a pack of ciggies a day, you’re spending as much as P3,000 per month… on something that could potentially make you sick. Same goes for that hip vape - you don’t really know the chemicals used on its juices.
Drinking alcohol is generally ok; what’s not ok is frequenting swanky bars where a bottle of beer or a glass of cocktail can cost you as much as P300.
Better use that money to try the food of well-reviewed restaurants in the metro.
