A public service reminder for everyone to keep their valuables hidden and safe when they’re riding Angkas or Joyride.

One netizen, @imdrakerivera, took to Twitter to share a frightening experience that happened while he was on the way home riding an Angkas/Joyride. The motorcycle he was riding was apparently being trailed by muggers.

Drake began his post with a reminder for commuters to hide their valuables while riding any motorcycle ride. He tweeted about the experience on May 4, which happened while he was traveling along Shaw Boulevard.

“We were chased from Shaw [Blvd.] to P. Guevarra by a riding-in-tandem. The guy at the back was holding an ice pick/sharp metal object. They attempted to block our path but luckily a jeep was heading towards us,” the netizen shared.

Because he was wearing earphones during his ride, Drake didn’t notice that someone was following them. It was only until he saw his driver beating red lights and speeding through humps that he learned what was happening.

He shared that the muggers were dressed in black and had their headlights off. They were also shouting at them. Because he didn’t have a bag with him, Drake only held his phone and wallet out of fear that they’d fall out of his pocket while on a motorcycle.

The experience reminded him to hide valuables as they might catch the eye of muggers. “So please guys, be careful.”

Angkas and Joyride already remind passengers to refrain from using phones while riding. To be safe, those riding motorcycles should keep their valuables like phones and wallets someplace safe and avoid wearing jewelry. It’s also best to be alert and aware of your surroundings when commuting, especially at night.

Stay safe, commuters!
