When the hottest gossip about celebrities’ relationships breaks the internet, people online can’t help but flock to it.
This type of “tea” always becomes the talk of town, whether it’s cryptic IG Stories or a soft launch of an unlikely pairing.
Just take the recent trending topics lately—the so-called beef between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber, and of course, there’s no need to look further with the James Reid and Issa Pressman story that has had the internet ablaze over the weekend.

Although it’s been a while since the Careless Music co-founder broke up with Nadine Lustre, she’s looped back into the drama. As Twitter users have accused, Issa was the reason behind the breakup of JaDine. Others have also raised how Nadine even defended Issa, her sister Yassi, and James before amidst the cheating allegations.
Wide-eyed netizens have dug deeper, unearthing an old video of Nadine in an April 2020 interview with Iza Calzado who was jokingly apologizing for “stealing James.” The actress responded to this by saying, “Wrong Iza, wrong Iza. Let’s let that issue, well that shouldn’t even be an issue. That was so weird.”

They also found that Momoland’s Nancy, who was linked to James, unfollowed the u & i singer.
So what is it about drama that pulls us in?
In an article for PsychCentral, therapist Cherilynn Veland said drama hooks people in because it gives them something called a “secondary gain.” This refers to when we benefit from a problem.
For instance, drama distracts us from focusing on our own lives. Instead of dealing with the heavy stuff at home or at work, other people’s conflicts fill up your busy mind. It’s exciting and our brains love good storytelling.
The anger we feel when we see those drama-filled posts about some celebrity possibly cheating also releases dopamine, the same feel-good hormones that get triggered whenever we take part in thrill-seeking activities, have sex, smoke, use social media, etc. While it’s empowering and therapeutic, anger can be addictive, that’s why reading about conflict gives us such a rush and we’re left looking for more.

As fun as it is to dive into all the hot goss, drama can be unhealthy for you as it creates stress and be mentally draining.
And whatever statement that celebrity posts to address all the talk about them, it won’t ever be enough for some people. It’s not to say that what they did is wrong or right, but celebrities don’t really owe their fans anything. Sure, fans can call out their behavior, but who knows whether they’ll really get through to them.
These public figures don’t need to explain their personal and private relationships to everybody. Fans can simply unfollow them if they want and just keep supporting the celebs they are rooting for.
Besides, some of the celebrities involved look to be unbothered by the drama and are just living their best lives.
