The Queen finally gets recognized
Zendaya can now officially add the tag ‘Emmy Award Nominee’ to her credit following her inclusion in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category for her role in HBO’s Euphoria.
The acclaimed series sees Zendaya as Rue, a teenager who struggles with drug addiction. The role is seen as a turning point for the actress, who initially started out in more kid-friendly productions, such as Disney’s Shake it Up.
‘I was looking for something to prove I can do it’, revealed Zendaya to Elle Magazine. Euphoria served as that, in the healthiest way. I never want to plateau as an actress. I always want to be able to explore and push myself’.
The first-time nominee was left ‘honestly speechless’, as she tweeted her thanks to the cast and fans of the series. Other nominees in the category include Jennifer Aniston, The Crown’s Olivia Colman, Ozark’s Laura Linney, and The Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, who won the award last year.
The winners will be announced on September 20.
