‘China, sinabi mo…’

ICYMI, senator Francis Tolentino previously suggested that PH should play ‘all-Filipino songs’ near the heavily-contested areas of the West Philippine Sea.

Apparently, these would serve as a warning to unwelcome occupants that they are in territories owned by PH.

Tolentino refused to drop names, but he did allude to Beijing’s controversial ‘nine-dash line’. The ‘nine-dash line’, which has since been dismissed by the Permanent Court of Arbitration, sees China claim almost 90% of the disputed waters.

Tolentino’s suggestion has since been ridiculed on social media, both for its alleged absurdness and futility. Still, as with every questionable government proposal, the senator’s proposition became a breeding ground of jokes and memes.

Parody page Malacañang Events and Catering Services went so far as to ‘create’ a Spotify playlist featuring pun-riddled songs, including ‘Maging Tsino Ka Man’ (Rodrigo Duterte), ‘Totoy Bobo’ (Bato Dela Rosa), ‘Alipin’ (Bong Go), and ‘Heal The World’ (Persida Acosta).

Defending our territory, one song at a time 👊

And while the curated playlist is sadly, a fake, we wouldn’t mind hearing this on repeat if Tolentino’s suggestion ever pushes through.
