Disney has released the official trailer of Mary Poppins Returns and it’s nothing short of mesmerizing!
Emily Blunt looks luminous playing the role made famous by the legendary Julie Andrews in the original 1964 musical fantasy.
In the trailer, we see Mary Poppins coming back to help the next generation of the Banks family after having experienced a personal loss.
“You seem hardly to have aged at all,” Michael Banks (played by Ben Whishaw) tells Mary, who snappily replies, “Really? One never discusses a woman’s age, Michael.”
We then get to see the practically perfect nanny take Michael’s three children — Annabel, Georgie, and John — on magical adventures.
“It’s a good thing you’ve come along when you did, Mary Poppins,” says Jack, a street lamplighter played by multi-awarded Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The powerhouse cast also includes Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, Emily Mortimer, and Julie Walters, with the special participation of Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy and Dick Van Dyke, Bert in the OG film, who, by the way still looks hale and hearty at 92, now plays the role of Mr Dawes Sr, the minor role he also played in 1964. Mind-blowing!
Rob Marshall directed this sequel, which features all new original songs by award-winning composer Marc Shaiman and lyricist by Scott Wittman.
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters in the US on December 19.
Release date in the Philippines is yet to be announced.
