Change is coming.

The rainbow flag is being raised in our humble little abode, specifically in Mandaue, Cebu.

So aside from the Gender Fair Ordinance that was passed in Quezon City last September 2014, there’s a new legislation passed specifically for the LGBT community last February 11, 2016.

The landmark ordinance is based on SOGIE, or sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, one of the first in the country.

The code protects the rights of the LGBT community: the right to bodily integrity, to the means necessary for the proper development of life particularly food, clothing, shelter, medical care, rest and social services.

It’s one of the historic victories for the people of diverse sexual orientation and gender identities in the City of Mandaue.

In our very conservative country, people aren’t as open to the LGBT community yet, with hate crimes and verbal bullying, it seems as though the Philippines has still a long way to go.

But with ventures likes these that ensure the fate and lives of the LGBT community, it doesn’t seem far anymore.

Congrats Mandaue for this brave move!
