This girl unexpectedly became the face of a national vaxx program

You don’t usually anticipate anything exciting when getting vaccinated against COVID-19, except for the fact that you’re protecting yourself from the virus. But on January 22, a TikTok user named Cathneil shared in a video how she unexpectedly got jabbed by Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Franciso Duque III.

Cathneil’s video has a text that reads, ‘Gusto ko [lang] naman mag pa booster ng normal, walang camera at kung ano ano pa.’ It turned out that it was the first day of the pilot implementation of the government’s “Resbakuna sa mga Botika” program in Manila last January 20.

The video then showed several photos of her together with Duque, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna.

In a separate TikTok video, Cathneil explained that she went to the vaccination site to simply get a booster shot together with her cousins. When they arrived, she noticed that there were already a few media outlets in the location.

While waiting, Cathneil learned that Duque will be the one to jab their booster shot. She thought that it will be held inside Mercury Drug Store, but the ones facilitating them led her to the tent where the media was.

She also explained that Duque was talking to her that’s why she had a surprised expression in Rappler’s photo.

Cathneil continued, ‘Hindi ko talaga naramdaman na naturok na yung karayom kasi magaan yung kamay [ni Duque] sa totoo lang.’

The TikTok user also explained that she agreed to be jabbed in front of the media since she and her cousins were already waiting for their turn for about an hour. She said, ‘Kung aalis pa kami edi sayang din hindi din ma boo-boosteran.’

‘Pag-uwi namin ganun na yung mga picture na inupload. Tawang tawa na lang ako. Hiyang hiya na ako,’ she added.

Other TikTok users jokingly asked if she even auditioned to be part and said it was a “sana all” moment since professional photographers were taking photos of her while getting boosted. The video already garnered 1.7 million views as of writing.
