‘Just when I thought 2020 couldn’t get any better’
On their official Facebook page, Netflix has officially announced that Studio Ghibli films will be available for streaming starting February 1.
Classics such as the Oscar-winning ‘Spirited Away’, ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Pom Poke’, ‘Whisper of The Heart’, ‘Arietty’, ‘The Wind Rises’, ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’, and ‘Ponyo on the Cliff By The Sea’ can all be seen in the vid announcement. The films will also be subtitled in 28 languages and dubbed in 20 languages.
The Japanese art house previously disapproved of streaming their film collection, as it could apparently compromise the ‘theatrical setting‘ of their movies – but they’ve since done a 180 when fans decried the decision.
‘In this day and age, there are various great ways a film can reach audiences,’ explained Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki.
‘We’ve listened to our fans and have made the definitive decision to stream our film catalog. We hope people around the world will discover the world of Studio Ghibli through this experience.’
