Sharkboy and Lavagirl is one of those films whose quality depends on perspective. Sure, it was practically dripping in cheese, but it was also a reflection of a time when things weren’t too serious and everyone was self-aware enough to poke fun at themselves.
Even for kids, it was campy, borderline cringy but undeniably fun (thanks, 3D) – enough for it to have a special place in our hearts. Now, this childhood flick is getting a little update, as revealed by director Robert Rodriguez.
In an interview panel with Collider during [email protected], Rodriguez revealed that Sharkboy and Lavagirl will have a cameo appearance in his latest superhero Netflix film, ‘We Can Be Heroes’.
‘Sharkboy and Lava Girl show up as superhero parents who now have a daughter who has shark and lava powers’, said Rodriquez. Sadly, he didn’t reveal if Taylor Lautner or Taylor Dooley will reprise their roles, only that the film will star Pedro Pascal and Priyanka Chopra.
Still, the news is a feel-good nostalgia boost during these troubled times. With the release date yet to be announced, we imagine we have enough time to search for our 3D glasses.
