PSA: It’s not for drinking
San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced that they’re planning to do their part in solving the PH equipment shortage by producing 70% ethyl alcohol at its Ginebra gin factory for local government units (LGUs) and pvblic hospitals nationwide.
SMC President Ramon shared that the company has already begun the initial production of the alcohol, as they’re aiming to distribute it in bulk of 20-liter containers and 1,000-liter tanks once completed.
The news also comes with SMC announcing that its food facilities will still operate 24/7 to provide aid for Coronavirus frontliners.
‘While hand-washing is still the best defense, hand sanitizers with 70 percent alcohol can be your next best option where soap and water are not available,’ Ang shared in a statement.
‘We have the means and capability to produce this. We are working on getting the necessary clearances from the relevant government agencies, to produce this for public use. We ask that they help expedite clearances.’
Not to be confused with the disastrously false claims that drinking alcohol can reduce the risk of Coronavirus, SMC’s decision to utilize their means could be gamechanger on how huge companies should repurpose their non-essential items midst the outbreak.
