‘Aksyon’s focus on jobs, hunger, peace, empowerment of the masses and of the youth resonated quite powerfully with me, as these are the same objectives I have set for my work,’ Gutoc said.
Gutoc was also described by party chairperson Ernest Ramel to be a “perfect fit” for Aksyon because of her “solid record” in public service. She is the co-founder and Chairperson of Ako Bakwit, Inc., where she lbrings to light the plight of IDPs from the Marawi siege. She is also part of the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre’s 500 Most Influential Muslims.
On the other hand, Moreno expressed that he was pleased about Gutoc’s addition to the board.
Aksyon officially declared Moreno’s position its newly-elected party president a day before Gutoc announced her inclusion. It said, ‘We saw in Yorme someone with a clean track record, tangible accomplishments, and a vision that the party shares.’
‘We are confident that he will be able to help lead the party in its thrust to be a unifying force in an atmosphere of heavy political polarization,’ it added.
