Meet Spot, Singapore’s futuristic solution for those breaking physical distancing. In collaboration with robotics company Boston Dynamics, Spot is assigned to parks in the country to calmly remind goers to remain at least 1 meter apart from each other.
In a soft-spoken voice, Spot can come up to people and say: ‘For your own safety and for those around you, please stand at least one meter apart. Thank you.’
And no it isn’t just you, he’s been said to be nearly identical to the robot dogs in Black Mirror S04E05’s ‘Metalhead‘, which you know, end up hunting down and killing humans.
Despite Spot apparently a tech disaster waiting to happen, Singapore is holding onto his intuition to solve the country’s rising 23,000 Coronavirus cases – as other technological developments are subbing for humans amidst the current pandemic.
‘Many wheeled and tracked robots have already been deployed inside hospitals to deliver meals or carry around a tablet and be used as a remote telemedicine platform,’ Boson Dynamics VP Michael Perry shared.
‘Mobile robots play a vital role in removing people from dangerous environments,‘
Let’s hope for the best
