Pornhub cleverly uses sports ad clichés in this brilliant (and SFW) promo for its new product

It’s Pornhub’s answer to an interesting question which no one really dares to ask: How do you exactly market anything related to porn?

The new ad embodies every generic trope we’ve come to know and love in sports ads produced by the likes of Nike, Adidas and Under Armour – complete with an intense training montage, the fierce looks of determination, and a voice-over detailing an athlete’s journey from failure to success.

However, judging by the video’s climax (wink, wink), the entire speech might just have a different message in mind, especially with gems like:

“No matter the conditions, each day you find the motivation”

“Sometimes it’s rough, but that’s how you like it. The truth is, it’s in the darkest hours, when you rise to the occasion”

“You may go solo, but you come hard. You give it your all, to the very last drop”

As it turns out, the whole thing is a metaphor for masturbation. Go figure. Sure, it’s lowbrow humour, but it can’t be denied that it’s pretty darn creative, especially with the hashtag, ‘BeatYourself’ – an apparent jab at well-known brand slogans such as Nike’s “Just do It” or Under Armour’s #RuleYourself.

And as for the product itself? It’s a lewd collection of limited edition socks – featuring both male and female porn stars with their mouths open – described as the “pro gear for your feet, and your hands”.

The video caps off with one of the athletes seemingly showing the audience how to put on the said sock. The ending is self-aware, weird and downright ridiculous, but you can’t expect anything less from a product that is just as absurd.

Kudos to advertising agency Officer & Gentleman – which has been responsible for Pornhub’s campaigns in the past – for making the pvblic feel juvenile and amused, all at the same time.
