Despite the public uproar and criminal charges for his violation of quarantine protocols, NRCPO Chief Debold Sinas is here to stay. That is according to Philippine National Police Chief Archie Gamboa, since Sinas is apparently vital in the fight against COVID-19.
‘Yes, I hope the public would understand kasi nandito tayo sa emergency situation’, said Gamboa per ABS-CBN News. He’s incredibly difficult to replace because he’s behind many programs in relation to COVID’.
PNP Spokesman Gen. Bernard Banac echoed the same sentiment, saying that the crisis calls for a sense of ‘continuity’. He added that under normal circumstances, officials facing controversy are relieved of their positions.
Turns out, the same man who broke quarantine policies at the risk of being considered ungentlemanly is one of the main cogs leading Filipinos in this crisis. Wow.
Sinas and 18 others are facing criminal cases after photos of his birthday party/mañanita/whatever-you-want-to-call-it circulated online. Sinas is personally facing charges of less grave neglect of duty and less grave misconduct.
Sinas is not the first government official to benefit from a call of ‘compassion’. The Department of Justice did the same thing with Senator Koko Pimentel after the latter waltzed into Makati Medical Center despite being positive with COVID-19.
It wasn’t until an ex-law dean formally filed charges against the lawmaker that the law made its move.
