The biggest stars of the American music industry descended on the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles for the 45th annual American Music Awards, hosted by actress and comedienne Tracee Ellis Ross on Sunday, November 19.
It was a big night for Tracee Ellis’ mother Diana Ross who was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, and Whitney Houston who was given a fitting tribute by Christina Aguilera by singing the late singer’s hits from her iconic film The Bodyguard, in celebration of its 25th anniversary.
Pink and Kelly Clarkson lead the list of artists who gave the most outstanding performances in the show. Performing together for the first time, they sang a soulful version of the R.E.M. hit “Everybody Hurts”, eliciting a standing ovation from the audience.
Later in the show, Pink once again showcased her badassery by performing her song “Beautiful Trauma” while being suspended by a cable on the wall of the J.W. Marriott hotel. She sang and danced in the air along with her dancers – it was nothing short of jaw-dropping!
Kelly Clarkson reminded the world how much of a vocal powerhouse she is with her explosive performance of her hits “Miss Independent” and “Love So Soft”. Fifteen years after winning the first season of American Idol, she’s still on top of her game!
Bruno Mars won Artist of the Year.
