Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year advocates optimism in social media

Unhealthy dramas, receipt culture, throwing shade – these are all reminders of just how bad social media has become nowadays.

It seems fitting then that Pantone’s choice for the 2019 Color of the Year is a reminder to take a step back from all the toxicity.

The successor to last year’s ‘Ultra Violet’, the ‘Living Coral’ is tagged as the representation of ‘seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy in a society that has become heavily influenced by social media and technology.

The color is also seen as a tone that encourages lighthearted activities, emphasizing our need for ‘optimism and joyful pursuits.’

Introducing the Pantone Color of the Year 2019, PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral – an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge. Sociable and spirited, the engaging nature of Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity. Symbolizing our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits, Living Coral embodies our desire for playful expression. #COY2019
