Netflix is dropping its first original Filipino animated film

Netflix will soon debut its first original Filipino animated film – and it’s one that might seem a bit familiar to audiences.

Titled ‘Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story’, the flick was first teased last year by Rocketsheep Studio, the same crew behind the 2016 live-action animated film Saving Sallywhich starred Rhian Ramos, Enzo Marcos, and TJ Trinidad. It’s also produced by Spring Films, which worked on films ‘Kita Kita’ and ‘Meet Me in St. Gallen’.

‘Hayop Ka!’ follows the romantic exploits of the anthropomorphic cat Nimfa (Angelica Panganiban) as she becomes torn between her two lovers, her simple boyfriend Roger (Robin Padilla) and the highly-successful Inigo (Sam Milby).

Empoy Marquez, Arci Muñoz, Piolo Pascual, Eugene Domingo, Yeng Constantino, Moira Dela Torre and Director Joyce Bernal are also in the cast.

‘My team and I took over 3-years of serious hard work to create this light and comical film’, said director Avid Liongoren. ‘While our main goal is to elicit a few laughs, our advocacy is to encourage local animation production’.

‘There have been less than 10 animated feature films in the entire 100-year history of Philippine cinema, and we want to continue adding to that, while also hoping that little by little, someday Filipino animators can be known as not just service providers, but creators as well’.

Hayop Ka! will drop on our screens this October 29.
