Did the MRT cop deserve a medal over ‘taho’ incident?

Is the bar set too low?

The cop who got drenched from a Chinese national’s taho-throwing tirade was recently given a medal of commendation by the PNP at Camp Crame.

PO1 William Cristobal received the ‘Medalya ng Papuri’ from PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde, who commended Cristobal’s exemplary display of restraint and discipline during the incident.

But while Cristobal truly deserved some recognition for showing grace under pressure, people online have been debating whether a medal was just too much.

Some argued that there are other officers who simply deserve it more. One countered by saying that the recognition serves as motivation for other policemen to do good in their jobs.

Others, meanwhile, say that this devalues the medal itself, which is awarded to officers who show ‘exemplary efficiency, devotion, and loyalty to their duty assignments.’
