In lieu of International Women’s Day, Netflix revealed its top choices to voice the kickass Alexandra Trese in its upcoming anime series based on the Philippine graphic novel by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.
Liza Soberano will be the lead for the Filipino language version of the show, while Shay Mitchell (YOU, Pretty Little Liars) will take over for its English counterpart.
Speaking about the lead cast, executive producer Jay Oliva (Wonder Woman, The Legend of Korra) is ecstatic over the actors he has onboard.
‘My concerns went away as soon as Shay Mitchell stepped into the recording booth’, Oliva shared. ‘Shay’s Alexandra exceeded my expectations and she delivers a performance of strength, determination, and family duty that is at the very core of the character.’
‘If that wasn’t enough, imagine my delight when we confirmed Liza Soberano joining the Filipino voice cast!’, Oliva gushed about Liza. ‘I am a big fan of hers and she fits the character so well.’
TRESE is set in a reimagined Manila, where creatures from PH folklore hide in the shadows. The series will follow occult detective Alexandra Trese, who comes into conflict with a criminal underworld filled with malevolent supernatural beings.
The show was first teased back in October of last year, with a planned 2021 release.
