Anime fans, rejoice! Comicbook.com reports that Thor Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi is set to direct the live-action adaptation of the iconic manga, ‘Akira’.
Adding to the film’s star power is Leonardo DiCaprio, who will reportedly executive produce the film.
While details about the project are still scarce, the remake will apparently follow the books, not the acclaimed 1988 film. Plus, Taika assures that his version won’t include any of Hollywood’s whitewashing antics.
‘Asian teenagers would be the way to do it for me and probably no, not, like no name, I mean sort of unfound, untapped talent.’ he tells Indiewire.
‘I’d probably want to take it a bit back more towards the books.’
The original ‘Akira’ is a post-apocalyptic, cyberpunk film set in Neo Tokyo after World War 3. It’s often considered as one of the greatest animated and sci-fi films of all time.
