“A historian is someone who recognizes our painful past, with factual evidence.”

ICYMI, the 2022 edition of Binibining Pilipinas just concluded its coronation last night with this year’s new batch of queens.

Nicole Borromeo bagged the Miss International crown, while Gabrielle Basiano, who won the Best in Swimsuit and Best in Evening gown, nabbed the Miss Intercontinental crown. Pageant newbie Herlene Nicole Budol, who secured almost all the minor awards, is this year’s first runner-up, with Stacey Gabriel being the second runner-up.

This year’s judging panel includes Jane De Leon and Joshua Garcia of the highly-anticipated Darna. However, the newly-minted love team is not the only reason that Joshua Garcia trended last night.

The Internet absolutely loved Joshua’s question for one of the most awaited parts of the pageant, the Q&A. The actor asked a hotly-debated question to the second runner-up, Stacey Gabriel: “Personally, how do you distinguish a historian from a Marites?”

Stacey, hailing from Cainta Rizal, boldly answered, “A historian is one who recognizes our painful past with factual evidence. Looking back at our rich, vibrant history and as well as the time when our humanity was trampled on and our heritage was almost erased. If we look at our past, we can surely move onward and upward and rebuild, rise from this pandemic, and dream of a safer, healthier, and happier Philippines.”

Joshua, For Binibining Pilipinas candidate, Marites are not historians As it seems, many agreed with her answer, including Miss International 2016 herself, Kylie Verzosa, who tweeted that Stacey deserved a higher placement with her answer.
