‘Joker‘ is officially arriving in PH without cuts and with an R-16 rating, as reported by Cinema Bravo.
An official review from the Movie and Television Review & Classification Board (MTRCB) reads:
‘Viewers are advised that the film deals with mature themes…There are scenes depicting graphic violence and gore, the treatment of which is not suitable for children, and use of strong swear words throughout. Only viewers sixteen (16) years of age and above may be admitted.’
The Joaquin Phoenix-led film has garnered immense hype in the country ahead of its October 3 premiere, particularly due to rave reviews and its controversial content.
While ‘Joker’ has enjoyed praise from critics, winning the Golden Lion at this year’s Venice Film Festival, the flick has also been slammed for its supposed potential to inspire violence.
Director Todd Philipps has since made it known that he feels his film is being unfairly picked upon, especially compared to other intense films such as ‘John Wick 3‘.
‘It’s a fictional character in a fictional world that’s been around for 80 years.’
‘[John Wick] is a white male who kills 300 people and everybody’s laughing and hooting and hollering. Why does this movie get held to different standards?
It honestly doesn’t make sense to me.”
