Despite its controversial content, there’s simply no stopping ‘Joker”s rampage at the box office.
The Todd Philips-helmed flick opened to a $93.6 million gross in its opening weekend, breaking the all-time record for the highest-grossing debut of a film in the month of October.
This shatters the mark notched by last year’s ‘Venom’, which made around $80 million in the same month.
Worldwide, ‘Joker’ has made $234 million, making it the fourth-highest opening for an R-rated film overall, ranking behind the two Deadpool films and IT: Chapter One.
‘Joker’ has polarized critics before and even well after its premiere, with some calling it as a ‘standalone film for the ages‘, while others lambasted it for its supposed glorification of violence.
Here at We The Pvblic, we simply adored this film. Apart from Joaquin Phoenix’s captivating performance, our review praised the flick for molding ‘Joker’ into a ‘figure which leaves you torn between pity and revulsion’, and for displaying how ‘society’s unfair practices could produce such a misguided and pitiful individual.’
