Your move, PH
Sailor Moon is out to save the world again – this time, it’s from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
The Japanese government’s Ministry of Health, together with HIV-awareness organization ‘Act Against AIDS’ and Okamoto Condoms, is currently giving away free Sailor Moon condoms to the general pvblic. No, we’re not kidding.
The Sailor Moon condoms come with their own heart-shaped packaging which sees the title character smiling alongside her cat, Luna. Even better is that series creator Naoko Takeuchi did the artwork himself, which just adds another level of authenticity.
The manga-themed rubbers were first handed out last October 5 at Fukuoka City, with another event scheduled on October 14 at Hiroshima City. Apparently, the Japanese government thought it was a good idea to ride on the Sailor Moon fandom to further increase awareness on HIV testing and STDs.
If latching on hype trains would be the key to finally convincing Filipinos to practice safe sex, here’s hoping the Department of Health rolls out ‘Ang Probinsyano’ condoms in the future.
