Bayanihan is a Filipino custom which refers to the spirit of communal unity, work and cooperation to achieve a particular goal. A bayani is a person who drives the spirit of Bayanihan alive.
Grab partner Grape tells the pvblic his act of Bayanihan which gave a mom the chance to see her son for the last time.
“Pag sakay niya, umiiyak siya,” Grab driver Grape recounts. He asked if she was okay, wherein he overheard the conversation between his passenger and the nurse on the phone.
He said that in 45 minutes, she might not see her child alive anymore. The mother asked the child’s companion at the hospital in Banawe to video his last dying breath for her as she cried in the Grab car.
At that point, Grape’s instincts went full berserk, turning his hazard sign on as he counter-flowed through traffic in order to get to the destination early.
After 32 minutes, they got to Banawe.
“Binabayaran niya ako ng P1,000,” Grape mentions as his passenger was alighting the vehicle. “‘Di ko po tinanggap. Kasi may anak din po ako.”
