Lil Dicky has done something he’s always wanted — to become a memorable rapper by switching bodies with Chris Brown in the fresh single “Freaky Friday” inspired by the 2003 film itself.
Lil Dicky told Beats 1 on Thursday about the creative process behind the record: “I knew that I had to switch bodies with a really good-looking guy that can sing and dance. And then I thought about who that is and like Chris Brown, it’s like, you know, no one can dance the way he dances.”
The story starts out with Dicky realizing he’s just an okay rapper, one of the more forgettable ones. He wishes he were someone else while watching Breezy on TV talking about struggling with fame.
The next day, Dicky wakes up in Breezy’s body and vice versa, trading lives for a day. Much of it was enjoyed by Dicky, Breezy warmed up to it a little with his lyrics:
Ain’t no paparazzi flashing pictures, this is great
Ain’t nobody judging ’cause I’m black or my controversial past
I’ma go and see a movie and relax
It doesn’t last very long because one, he wonders if his daughter’s at school and two, it’s Chris Breezy, of course he’d want to be himself.
Ed Sheeran, DJ Khaled and Kendall Jenner make brief cameos at the viral video and it’s getting more hype as the hour passes by. Watch the video above and you’ll know why.
