Every year, we come together to give one hour for Mother Earth. We #Connect2Earth by disconnecting, with our planet’s gain as everyone’s gain. We come together because the rich variety of life on earth continues to decline every year and it’s our job to save it.
Cocoon Boutique Hotel and Hive Hotel & Convention Place taught us a thing or two about being eco-friendly when We the Pvblic went there for their Earth Hour celebration last March 24, 2018.
Just a block away from its flagship property, the first seriously eco-friendly deluxe boutique hotel, The Cocoon Boutique Hotel, Hive Hotel & Convention Place similarly takes inspiration from nature’s genius craftsmanship.
Daniel Alejandre from Ecowaste Coalition talked about a zero-waste lifestyle at the event. He jokes, in a Filipino term, it’s called “sulit” because in a way, we’re helping save Mother Earth, and we’re helping ourselves by being tipid.
On a more serious note, he tells us we’re living in a linear economy where all of the things we use go straight to disposal.
He recited his own poem “Oras ng daigdig, hihinto ang mga maaksayang hilig”. One particular line from the poem that caught us off guard was, “Polusyon sa lupa, sa hangin, at tubig, saan tatakbo kung “bahala na” ang bukang bibig?”
“Mabuhay ng simple, at gawin ang dakila,” he ended.
Project Development Campaigner Officer IV PRRC (Pasig River Rehabilitation Center) George Delarama, on the other hand, talked about their objective to bring Pasig River back to life.
The PRRC’s river management framework focuses on easement recovery, housing and resettlement, river banks and flood control development, environmental management, and pvblic information. Did you know that people have been fishing at Pasig River again after the rehabilitation program it’s been getting from the PRRC?

A performer from Ukulele Underground Philippines also serenaded the crowd through soothing hits such as Jason Mraz’s “Back to the Earth” and Tropical Depression’s “Kapayapaan”. He tells us he wants people to understand their similar advocacy through arts.
SM Malls Sustainability Management Officer Gene Angelo Ferrer tells us to have one particular thought in mind: Never if, always when. A reminder for us to take action and take care of Mother Earth as we live our lives throughout it. You can always start somewhere. It’s never if, just when.
The Cocoon and Hive Hotel staff came together to give us a hauntingly beautiful performance of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”. And I quote MJ: If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change.
Kudos to Cocoon Boutique Hotel and Hive Hotel & Convention Place for bringing together a night of unity, peace and love for Mother Earth. We know why Cocoon’s number one on TripAdvisor!
If you share their advocacies, or you just want to experience the luxury that is responsible or vibrancy that is eco-chic, be sure to check in and check them both out!
