This is America.
Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, has kept it real with the public and his latest music video of “This Is America” is going to hit you hard.
In the mv, you’ll see some Bino pop culture dance moves along with guns, students, and Death riding a white horse.
Now, it’s pretty hard to notice with everything happening all at once, but luckily, this Twitter user captured it perfectly, and we’re sure this is understandably one of the most subtle cinematic messages we’ve seen in a music video:
Death riding the Pale white horse while he is followed by Hell (represented by police) going totally unnoticed because of dancing and pop culture in the foreground is the single greatest cinematic message I’ve seen in a music video to date. #ThisIsAmerica pic.twitter.com/DYaPjbvoym

“And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.” -Revelation 6:8

The music video was released on May 5, 2018 which is the first single from Gambino’s upcoming, and his rumored last, album. The concept of the video shows it clearly: Americans continuously being hammered with problems like gun control, but finding a way to ignore them through pop culture references. Sooner or later, these problems will eventually catch up to them.
You’ll find a mix of a happy, carefree, get your money type of choruses mixed with dark verses which gives the public a more in-depth view of what the reality of African-American culture is contrary to popular belief.
The mv shows the cycle of moods wherein in one part, the whole nation is in a state of turmoil, and in the next, they’ll be as carefree and untroubled with the problems with the help of all sorts of new pop culture trends.
