Pokemon Day just got more epic
The 2019 CGI film ‘Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back — Evolution‘ will finally have its international debut outside of Japan and Korea as its set to drop on Netflix this February 27 on Pokemon Day.
ICYDK, ‘Mewtwo Strikes Back‘ is the CGI remake of ‘Pokemon: The First Movie‘ – the very first film release for the Pokemon franchise way back in 1998. Meanwhile, the CGI film premiered in Japan back in 2019 and was one of the country’s top-grossing films in its opening week.
‘Mewtwo Strikes Back‘ doesn’t change much of the plot from the 1998 film, as it still follows newly-bioengineered Mewtwo against the OG squad of Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu. The storyline might sound familiar to fans as it was also included in the 2019 live-action Pokemon film ‘Detective Pikachu’.
‘Netflix is the ideal platform to help us execute a global simultaneous launch of an animated Pokemon movie on Pokemon Day, a special moment dedicated to celebrating the worldwide Pokemon fan community,’ The Pokemon Company said.
