Embrace change: Biggest lessons from Liza Soberano’s first vlog

-

When Liza Soberano wiped out her social media in the middle of February, fans thought the actress was hacked. But in reality, she was just preparing for a big change for the better.

The 25-year-old made her return to Instagram on Feb. 23, with a deeply personal poem about a flower’s dream to freely bask in the sun.

Her social media comeback also saw a vlog titled “This is Me,” detailing the transitions she’s going through in her career. Liza gave a recap of everything that happened to her in 2022—from starring in Lisa Frankenstein to getting in a motorcycle accident.

ICYMI, Liza left Star Magic in 2022 and signed on to James Reid’s Careless Music in a move to take control of her career—a move that was met with disappointment by some fans, according to Liza.

From her 14-minute vlog, some pearls of wisdom were dropped and these lessons are something that we could learn from (even though we’re not a huge celebrity like Liza).

Break free from the box

People around us have a habit of telling us what we can and can’t do or be. For Liza, this experience came in the form of working on rom-coms and teleseryes with the same co-star, the same production company, and the same directors (although some creatives that she worked with argue that she was never put in a box).

“During all those years, I was never really asked for my input, my thoughts, my ideas. I felt like I was being told to be just a flower for so long and I finally started to explore a world of being able to create and tell my story and hopefully others,” she said.

And exploring other paths can help you break out of that box, that comfort zone that you (or society) have put you into. It’s a big risk to break free, but if you don’t take that first step, you’ll be stuck doing the same old thing.

Find your tribe

Aside from the family you’re related to by blood, it’s beneficial to have a supportive chosen family. These people can simply be friends or co-workers who support you and your dreams. This was something Liza found in Careless Music as the company let her take her career to where she wanted it to go.

Be kind to yourself

That me-time is so important. Life can take its toll on a person but little practices like journaling, working out, and meditating can go a long way in nourishing your mind, body, and soul.

Let yourself dream and chase after it. Liza realized that in her 13 years in show business, she hasn’t really done stuff for herself.

“By giving in to the pressure of doing what everybody else wants for me, I am being unfair to myself, Hope Soberano,” the actress said, referring to herself by her real name.

“I’ve sacrificed my childhood, I’ve sacrificed my freedom and I’ve sacrificed my happiness to present Liza Soberano to the world and I think that I’ve earned the right to finally be me, to finally be able to do things for me as Hope Soberano.”

Don’t be afraid of change

Newness can be scary—whether that’s a new job, a new relationship, or a new city—because you’re making moves in unknown territory. These changes, however, bring about opportunities and experiences that may help you grow. Change isn’t always bad, it can be that thing that you’ve always needed.

“I’ve embarked on a fresh new chapter and I’m finally taking control of my life, pursuing dreams that I’ve always had to hold off on and it’s exciting, it’s terrifying, it’s anxiety-filled and confusing,” Liza shared. “But what I know for sure is I’m finally living my life for me.”
