More like a lifetime of tears
9-piece folk band ‘Ben&Ben‘ are no strangers to sharing their own heartwarming tales through feelsy songs. This time around though, they’re placing their much-loved talents in someone else’s shoes – a fan’s YouTube comment, to be exact.
In a recent private listening session, the group shared that they took inspo for their new single ‘Lifetime‘ while scrolling through the comments section of their song ‘Pagtingin‘.
the new single we are a releasing is a tribute to anne jou's story. it is called "Lifetime".
kahit di natin sila nakatuluyan sa mundong ito, oks lang naman kasi nakaukit naman sila sa mga awitin natin.

The mentioned comment was from an account named Anne jou, who hid her feelings for her high school best friend for years.
She kept it a secret up until his wedding, where she learned that he had the same feelings for her all this time.
‘Before his wedding, he thanked me for being his best friend and told me that before he met the girl he got married to, he loved me first. For 5 years. But he was also scared of losing me so he just decided to keep it.
‘We didn’t know that if only one of us dares to make a move, a lifetime was waiting for us.’ Ouch.
update: so.. this kept us up last night that we ended up writing a new song about it https://t.co/hzDmgQmPo2

Meanwhile, this is the first song the band had to record separately in their own homes, making for ‘LDR‘-esque challenges for the band.
‘I think the hardest part was finding a way na magbabatuhan kami ng ideas, how we’d comment on each other’s arrangement,’ shared the band’s percussionist, Andrew De Pano.
With the pandemic forcing the members’ apart, they’ve also learned to reign in a new dynamic in song-making and collaborating as a group.
‘When we started this [pandemic], we were filled with fear and uncertainty. But what came out of that process was the decision to embrace this new dynamic,‘ shared 1/2 of the Guico brothers, Paolo.
And yes, they have more music lined up while in quarantine.
‘Madami. Aside from ‘Nakikinig Ka Ba Sakin’, there are also some other songs in the works. Maraming nakapila – it’s a good problem to have,’ shared fellow frontman Miguel Guico.
On whether we’ll hear ‘Lifetime’ being recorded live online soon, it’s a collective ‘yes‘ from our fave group. You can catch the new single when it drops on streaming platforms this Thursday, June 4.
Trust us, it’s a tearjerker
