All for love and love for all.
Something as beautiful as love shouldn’t be kept hidden in a closet. On August 27, Jaja Leongson-Villareal and Gea Villareal made it official through the Rite of Holy Union at the La Mesa Eco Park.
Same-sex marriage is unfortunately not YET (fingers crossed) legal in the Philippines, explaining why the two proceeded with a Holy Union aka a wedding ceremonial ritual for “two consenting adults that promise to live together for the rest of their lives, in building their own family suited and fitted for their desire based on love, responsibility and communion with GOD.”
According to LGBTS Christian Church, “The difference of Holy Union and Matrimony is that Matrimony has its legal entity while the Holy Union is purely ritual.”
“The promise of loyalty, commitment and trust are essences of the union ceremony attested and witnesses by their friends and or family,” it added. The ceremony is conducted by a minister authorized by the LGBTS CHRISTIAN CHURCH INC.
We the Pvblic interviewed Jaja Leongson-Villareal on the big day and you should know why #LoveWins, above all else:
How long have you two been together?
19 months. 1 year bago siya nagpropose.
How did Gea pop the question?
Kakauwi Lang actually namin nun sa house galing airport then nung nag unpack na kami ng things niya and ng pasalubongs niya, sabi niya sakin, meron pa daw siya gift sakin. Nasa bag daw niya then she asked me na kunin ko daw sa bag niya. Nung una, ayoko pa kasi ang layo ng bag niya pero after ilang minutes, kinuha niya yung bag niya pero ako pinagbukas niya and sabi niya kunin ko daw yung blue box from her backpack then there was a ring inside. Akala ko pa nga nung una bracelet or earrings lang kasi yung size and itsura nung box, hindi ganun yung usual na pang ring.
Lol then ayun, actually hindi niya sinabi na “Will you marry me?” Ang sabi niya is “Marry me.” And isa yun sa pinaka masayang nangyari sa buhay ko na kahit paulit ulit kong ikwento though hindi man sobrang bongga nung proposal niya, hindi ako magsasawang i-share yun sa lahat. Enough na yung malaman ko na gusto niya ko makasama for the rest of her life.
Did you guys really plan on having your holy union rite in the Philippines?
Our plan is to get married in the US, but majority of my family is here in the Philippines so we decided to have a ceremony here as well. Syempre gusto namin na pati yung family and relatives namin dito sa Philippines, ma-witness yung love na meron kami for each other.
Speaking that we come from a traditional country, how did your loved ones react?
My family accepted us, full support nga pa nga e. Kaya Hindi kami masyado nahirapan kasi opinion ng family lang naman yung concern namin and since na okay naman sakanila, hindi na namin inisip sasabihin ng iba pang tao.
What can you say to the naysayers of same-sex marriage?
God bless you. Hehe
Is there anything you want to say to the pvblic?
Love is love no matter what. Wala yan sa estado ng buhay, wala yan sa itsura and mas lalong wala yan sa gender.
This is why #LoveWins.
Now why did we do this?
