Partnering with Liter of Light, Pilipinas Shell turned over solar-powered house lights to 100 families in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
“Less waste, more light” is a project that started with Shell calling on the public to donate PET bottles to be used to build solar-powered house lights.
“We activated Shell stations in Metro Manila to collect one liter bottles; activated the Shell employee community to work together and convert what would otherwise be trash into house lights for communities,” said Aldwin Angeles, Digital Marketing Manager, Pilipinas Shell.
The house lights donated were built by Shell employees themselves in a half-day workshop led by Liter of Light representatives.
The project was an initiative of Pilipinas Shell Retail linked to Shell’s Access to Energy (A2E) campaign. A2E program is committed to empowering communities by increasing energy access, while decreasing carbon footprint.
“We use access to energy, particularly clean energy, to empower the communities around our areas of operations and help them to develop to their full potential,” said Sankie Simbulan, Social Performance and Social Investment manager of Shell Companies in the Philippines.
“Less waste, more light” project is indeed a collaborative effort between the public and Shell employees, proving that the overwhelming task of giving access to sustainable energy and reducing waste is achievable.
“From the customer who donated plastic bottles at your Shell station, to the staff and personnel who learned how to build the light, to volunteers who came to Angat today to turn over this gift of light, Shell understands and shares Liter of Light values to bring the people together to solve the huge challenge of energy poverty,” said Silvana Diaz, mother of Liter of Light’s founder Illac Diaz, who graced the turnover ceremony.
