PSA: Cars with just a driver inside may be forbidden on EDSA

If you drive your car from place to place, singing at the top of your lungs alone in EDSA traffic, you may not be able to enjoy your own company anymore.

Top Gear Philippines has received information from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) that pvblic and private vehicles alike with only the driver aboard may no longer be authorized to drive in EDSA under the new Modified Car Pooling Policy.

Heavily tinted cars are going to be flagged down in order to see the number of occupants inside.

The anti-traffic measure was proposed in a meeting between the MMDA, Metro Manila Council, and the Office of the Assistant General Manager of Operations. However, the document and proposal isn’t final yet.

If passed, the Modified Car Pooling Policy will be implemented from Monday to Friday from 7am to 8pm, except during holidays. It’ll cover the entire length of EDSA, both southbound and northbound, from North Avenue to Magallanes. Merely crossing EDSA is stated to be allowed though.

Pvblic and private vehicles with just one passenger and one driver on-board will still be allowed on EDSA, however, it’ll be subject to the provisions of the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP).
