MUDJUR: The story of the boy who sold snacks by reciting the Preamble of the 1987 Philippine Constitution

“Preamble 1987 Philippine Constitution: We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution,” he recites for his customers.

Mudjur Clemente Raqueno first went viral on Facebook back in 2015 for his unique way of selling snacks and goods in numerous schools in Manila. He started back in 2007.

Mudjur tells the pvblic of when he first thought of a gimmick, he danced for his customers to get them to buy some snacks from him.

Halika rito, tuturuan kitang marketing strategy.’”

And that’s where he got his style of selling.

Mudjur works hard in order to provide for himself and his siblings, sometimes his earnings aren’t enough and he has to deal with the roughness of life. He also notes he uses his time to do homework while selling in order not to waste time.

“Everytime he speaks, his words are full of meaning,” his English teacher tells the pvblic. “This kid, he’s good in pronunciation. The way he speaks, I admire him so much.”

One of his friends says, “I feel glad because he doesn’t give up. Forward lang tayo, push. Pero at the same time, nakita ko to lumaki, tapos alam mo kasi may mararating siya; matalino si Mudjur.”

“Before he was known to recite that preamble, he was telling us before that he’s the first honor in their class.”

Mudjur mentions that one day, he’ll be able to help people in need. “Naniniwala po ako na balang araw, bawat salita sa provision of the law, magagamit ko po upang magtanggol sa mga taong nangangailangan.”
