What a makeup noob learned from Beauty: Deconstructed

As I stepped inside that makeup-filled event, I knew I had no clue what I was getting myself into.

Group pictureI knew it was going to be difficult with makeup jargon I probably wouldn’t understand fully, but something happened on that day in Greenfield District where Splice Restaurant was sitting pretty – I learned something.

Now, I’m not going to give you lecture on how to do your makeup or how sleeping early could benefit you, but a recap on WOOmen.ph’s event Beauty: Deconstructed is in the mix and it’ll give you some great pointers:

Ron Pena – Basic Makeup

Ron pena“For reals this time, I’ve prepared something for you guys about having your own personal makeup and doing it like how pros do it,” Pena says just before she dives into five pro elements to look like a goddess: BCCFI.

B – Blending

Blending is a form of art when you think about it. You can’t just keep blending without a certain stroke, without a certain amount. Keep blending until you find the perfect volume for the totality of your face.

C – Color Harmony

It’s a blend of warm colors and cool colors. Balance is key.

C – Color Correction

Use this sparingly, very precisely. Only use it on the area that needs it.

F – Foundation

It’s the very base of what you’re going to put over of what you’re going to hide under.

I – Well-trainer “eye”

You need a makeup third eye or a 5th sense for makeup. It’s a sense of what to do and how to do it.

Shai Lagarde – Style with Purpose

Shai lagarde (1)It was more of a sharing for Shai, the owner of lovechic.ph. Shai is a stylist, host, and blogger at lovechic.ph. She had a realization during parts of her work that “what I can do can have a greater purpose.” She had a voice.

What is lovechic?

It’s about fashion, beauty, travel, lifestyle, food, pop – not a showcase but a guide. Lovechic.ph conducts talks, workshops, personal counseling – it’s style with purpose. Shai believes it’s paying forward, responding to a person’s kindness by being kind to someone else.

“What makes lovechic is when it is profound and genuine.”

  1. Everyone starts from the bottom. Unless they’re related to someone rich/famous.
  2. Those who know better look beyond that.
  3. So capture/connect/retain attention.
  4. Use your creativity to retell the story with your own twist, for context and timeliness.

It’s not about telling A story, it’s about telling YOUR story.
